Abby's Nose!

A little less than a year ago, we had the joy of posting this on our blog!

Well, Abby seems to have a thing with shoving things up her nose! Last Sunday as we were about to load up the car to head off to church, Benjamin informed us that Abby had told him she shoved a bead up her nose. Using all of our highly trained medical skills and pulling out all of our medical tools (nose sucker, tweezers, flashlight, and tissues), we came to the conclusion that not only were we NOT going to get the dumb bead out, but that we had probably made matters worse by fiddling around with it.

So, we climb in the car, drop Thomas and kids off at church and take Abby to the ER at the suggestion of the nurse at the after hours clinic. Boy, we must have been the best dressed patients in the ER that day! Sunday dresses and hair all done up! So after about an hour and a half of using REAL tools - not to mention a real doctor - there was another conclusion drawn. This bead was NOT coming out of her nose! He could see it up there, it was a lovely purple one, it matched her little outfit that day - at least she has some fashion sense - he just couldn't get it out.

The ER doctor called an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat specialist) and discussed the options and came back and informed us that we were to go to Farr West Monday afternoon and meet with him. If the ENT couldn't get it out with all his specialized tools, than on Tuesday morning we would go back to the hospital and take her to the operating room to take care of it.

Monday dawns bright and early. Abby slept in till 9:00am. I went in and checked on her at least 3 times. Making sure that darn bead hadn't clogged her breathing passages! 4:30 we head down to the ENT office and wait in the waiting room for about an hour. Finally get taken into the doctor's office and within about 10 minutes, he had dislodged the bead!!

So, the Rust family once again avoids major catastrophe and ends up with one snotty purple bead!!!!

Why must our kids be so infatuated with their noses?!

Look Melanie, I updated the family blog!!!

Thank you!!! It made me smile to see that you had posted!! You live to far away to not post your happenings! I'm very glad you were able to get that bead out without surgery. She's too cute to get something like that done to her.
